“I walk back and forth to school daily, eat my fruits and vegetables and try to pamper myself regularly. I have organized weekly dance/exercise classes for my colleagues. In the past, I also organized weekly staff volleyball games. Fun, laughter and a positive attitude go a long way towards creating a healthy lifestyle.”
Jan Snell, Plum Tree Park P.S.

The National Wellness Survey Report 2000 confirmed that workplace wellness is becoming increasingly important to the Canadian business community:

  • 17.5% of companies surveyed are offering comprehensive wellness programs
  • 64% are offering some type of wellness initiatives

The two most common reasons that companies give for supporting workplace wellness are:

  • 27.3% consider healthy employees a valuable asset
  • 25.6% want to promote a healthy lifestyle

An Ounce of Prevention….!

In the North American workplace, the majority of illnesses and injuries fall into 6 main disease categories:

  • Cardiovascular – heart disease, angina, arteriosclerosis
  • Muskuloskeletal – back disorders, repetitive strain injuries, sprains, dislocations
  • Respiratory - pneumonia, sinusitis, viral infections, bronchitis
  • Digestive – ulcers, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome
  • Cancer
  • Stress – headache, anxiety reactions, insomnia, gastric disorders

All of these medical conditions can be prevented or the level of risk reduced through physical activity and other lifestyle changes!

Wellness works for everyone!
